The history of Wilton dates back to the 1800s. The first sale of town lots in Wilton occurred in 1844. The Church of England received two acres of land for a church, school, and parsonage in 1866. The area has seen various changes over the years, including the introduction of coal mining, which led to the construction of miners' homes in the village.
In more recent times, Wilton was considered as a potential site for Sydney's second airport during the 1970s. However, Badgerys Creek was ultimately selected for this purpose.
